Grief Support Services

What is grief?

Grief, by definition, is the human response to losing something or someone significant; particularly the death of a loved one. Oftentimes, people question whether they are grieving the ‘right’ way. The reality is that there is no right or wrong way to do it and no time limit. It is okay to grieve differently from others. Peer based support throughout the grieving process can assist someone along their healing journey. You don’t have to explain your grief to people who have lived it too. Peer-to-peer grief support creates connection, understanding, and relief from isolation. Our groups are open to anyone grieving the recent loss of a loved one—because grief is easier when it’s shared. Contact the coordinator in your region to sign up! Spaces are limited

Hospice PEI is pleased to offer free Peer to Peer Grief Support Groups that are informative and supportive in nature. The groups are not grief counselling or therapy and are both in-person or online via Zoom. They are for people who are grieving the loss of a loved one. It is an opportunity for people to come together to share their thoughts, feelings, and aspects of their healing journey in a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential environment. Through telling their story, they support one another. It is a closed group of six to eight people. The smaller group size allows participants to feel comfortable and build trust with one another. Sessions run once a week for eight weeks. We do not accept third party referrals.
